Three Cheers For Two-Day Perl Conference In Italy

Italy is one of those places that almost everyone wants to visit. It's hard to just drop everything and fly to another country for the heck of it, however, so if you're in need of an excuse, the fifth edition of the Italian Perl Workshop may provide exactly that.

On October 22nd and 23rd, in Pisa, Italy, Perl experts from around the world will be getting together to discuss the programming language. Some of the people who have already committed to attending include Tim Bunce, Thomas Fuchs, Amy Hoy, Dave Rolsky, and Jonathan Worthington.

Interesting, right? It seems like the sort of thing to which corporations with deep pockets would willingly send some employees.

Then here's a key point: although would-be attendees must register online, the Workshop is free. So companies without deep pockets would only face paying travel expenses, or if even that's too much of a stretch, Perl experts could just ask for time off and then make the whole thing an official learning experience/vacation combo.

This sounds like a pretty nice way to spend a couple of days in the fall. Unless you really stretch out the vacation part, you'll be back at home in time for Halloween, too. So consider checking out your calendar and your employer's ability to pay for airfare, and then registering for the Workshop if you can make it.
