Perl News Now Way More Likely To Make Headlines

Some people would have you believe that achieving something is its own reward, with or without wider recognition. But we all understand that publicity can be nice (companies spend millions of dollars chasing it, after all), and members of the Perl community can now proudly know that their programming language is getting mentioned in widespread press releases.
The important press release describes how the Perl Foundation is moving Perl 5 development to the Git version control system. Anybody can type up a few paragraphs, though, so what's key is the "widespread" part of this development.
In regards to the new press release, Dave Cross explains, "It's on PRWeb. For those who don't know, PRWeb is the best-known press release distribution service. The TPF Git press release will now be arriving in the inbox of hundreds of editors and other interested parties who have subscribed to technology news. And that, of course, increases the chance that the story will be published in the tech press and that people outside of the echo chamber will read it."
Putting press releases on PRWeb is pretty easy, too - it takes less than an hour of time and the only real sticking point is an $80 fee - so it seems likely that a lot of Perl news will be finding its way to the site in the future.
More publicity could lead to more Perl fans, then to more updates and more publicity again in a nice, self-perpetuating media cycle.
