February Perl Conference Planned

By Doug Caverly

Make no mistake about how cold things will be during this conference; we're talking about Minnesota in early February, and the daily lows and highs should be around 10 F and 30 F, respectively. But for the hearty and winter-loving individuals out there, Frozen Perl 2009 promises to be an interesting event.

The main conference will run between Saturday, February 7th and Sunday, February 8th, and will take place at the University of Minnesota's McNamara Alumni Center in Minneapolis. So long as you register before January 12th, admission should be just $40, or an individual can get a little more attention by stepping up to the $120 sponsorship level.

As for what will happen during these two days, there's a call for speakers if you really want to be in the spotlight. Otherwise, Andy Lester will be the keynote speaker, and on Sunday, there will be a hackathon. Organizers are still accepting topic suggestions for this second event.

Also, if you feel like showing up on Friday, brian d foy (as he writes it) will offer a class for a separate (and as yet undetermined) fee.

Frozen Perl seems like a nice opportunity for people to do some networking and shop talk, particularly for those on the east coast who might otherwise have to visit California.

Given the undecided schedule and months-away deadline, there's no need to cement your plans now, of course. Just start giving some thought to how many sweaters you own, what gas prices are supposed to do, and how important the Perl event is to you.
